After today, a lot.
While I was sitting there waiting in the waiting room, how ironic, I came across a bunch of hustle and bustle on the twitter-sphere about some craziness at PyCon. If you’re not familiar with PyCon, it’s a conference for Python folks, want more? Google it.
In any event, the skinny of it simple. Ms Adria Richards got offended by a couple of knuckleheads that were making some “possibly” offensive remarks, although humorous, about forking and dongels. I mean, really, who hasn’t made those jokes by now?
In any event, she decided to take matters into her own hands and outlined the events in her blog post, Forking and Dongle Jokes Don’t Belong At Tech Conferences.
Now, at first glance, although I didn’t want to, I felt a bit sympathetic, although annoyed as hell. In any event, she decided to go, what I like to call High and to the Right with things and put these knuckleheads on blast by tweeting this out:
She goes on to outline her case in her blog on all the things, wrong things, she did to rectify the situation. None of which included addressing things privately. In any event, turns out that the guy in the pictures ends up getting canned by his company, Playhaven. Then in another twist, SendGrid, Adria’s company, responds by canning her too.

All in all, while I shook my head in disbelief I found myself sad that this was happening at all. Then, then the real winner. While reading through comments I come across this tweet from Ms Adria to a friend (mind you, which includes her 14,000 followers):
Now look, ladies and gentlemen I’m all about supporting equality and crap like that but if you’re going to walk that line, then walk it. You can’t be one way one minute and another another, that just messes with people’s heads. You can’t go around making those kind of tweets then play the victim like you do here:

How many times do I have to deal with this?
Can they not hear what Jesse is saying?
I mean come on turbo, all the drama and build up. Seriously? This was an event with a bunch of geeks, many likely amped with 3x the normal dosage of energy drinks and cheetos. Most lack the smallest sense of social engagement skills let alone soft skills to be around people at all. But anyway.. I digress.

You have to admit though, it’s all a bit tiring no? To think, maybe two jobs would have been saved today, especially in a time where everyone is looking for work. This whole thing was just stupid and what we do know is that Dongle has had its day today!!
